- Systematic study of tissue section thickness for MALDI MS profiling and imaging. [Journal Article]Analyst. 2023 Jan 20 [Online ahead of print]A
- Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI MSI) has become a powerful method for studying the spatial distribution of molecules. Preparation of tissue sections is a critical step for obtaining high-quality imaging data. The thickness of the slice of tissue affects the feature quality of MALDI MSI. However, few studies involved in-depth and systematic examination …

- Background We aim to evaluate the association between meal intervals and weight trajectory among adults from a clinical cohort. Methods and Results This is a multisite prospective cohort study of adults recruited from 3 health systems. Over the 6-month study period, 547 participants downloaded and used a mobile application to record the timing of meals and sleep for at least 1 day. We obtained in…

- CONCLUSIONS: PEA is an unrare self-limiting condition that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen. To support clinicians and radiologists regarding PEA and its clinical, laboratory and radiological findings, targeted sonographic examination - which is radiation and contrast agent-free - could be highly sufficient for the diagnosis of PEA and may prevent unnecessary further imaging and mistreatment.

- Preoperative visualization of congenital lung abnormalities: hybridizing artificial intelligence and virtual reality. [Journal Article]Eur J Cardiothorac Surg. 2023 Jan 16 [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the technical feasibility of a hybridized artificial intelligence -virtual reality visualization of segment-level lung anatomy in patients with congenital lung abnormalities. Further exploration of the value of three-dimensional-virtual reality in identifying eligible cases for anatomical segmentectomy is therefore warranted.

- Intratumoral microbiota: roles in cancer initiation, development and therapeutic efficacy. [Review]
- Microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other eukaryotes, play critical roles in human health. An altered microbiome can be associated with complex diseases. Intratumoral microbial components are found in multiple tumor tissues and are closely correlated with cancer initiation and development and therapy efficacy. The intratumoral microbiota may contribute to promotion of the init…

- Therapeutic adenine base editing of human hematopoietic stem cells. [Journal Article]
- In β-thalassemia, either γ-globin induction to form fetal hemoglobin (α2γ2) or β-globin repair to restore adult hemoglobin (α2β2) could be therapeutic. ABE8e, a recently evolved adenine base editor variant, can achieve efficient adenine conversion, yet its application in patient-derived hematopoietic stem cells needs further exploration. Here, we purified ABE8e for ribonucleoprotein electroporati…

- Atypical Guillain-Barré syndrome presenting with fluctuating weakness. [Case Reports]
- Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an immune-mediated polyneuropathy, most often occurring within weeks of an infection. Cases of COVID-19-related GBS have been reported, and the typical presentation is a progressive ascending paralysis. We describe a case of a 40-year-old with recent symptomatic COVID-19 who presented with atypical GBS findings, hand weakness that progressed to tetraplegia within …

- What's New in Therapy for Male Androgenetic Alopecia? [Journal Article]
- Male androgenetic alopecia is a common condition and represents a major concern for patients who experience this condition. While there are different treatments to stop hair loss and improve hair density, the 5-alpha reductase inhibitors have demonstrated to be effective in improving androgenetic alopecia in men and can maintain a positive response for many years. Oral finasteride 1 mg is a US FD…

- Effect of aerobic exercise on waist circumference in adults with overweight or obesity: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]
- Excess visceral adiposity contributes to elevated cardiometabolic risk, and waist circumference is commonly used as a surrogate measure of visceral adipose tissue. Although regular aerobic exercise is known to improve abdominal obesity, its effect on waist circumference is unclear. A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to determine (1) the effect of aerobic exercise on waist circumf…
